3. What type of batteries can be used with the DS-4000?

The DS-4000 uses a NiMH rechargeable battery pack, two AAA NiMH batteries or two AAA alkaline batteries.

4. What is the difference between insert recording and overwrite recording?

Overwrite will overwrite a previously recorded file from any point within the file. Insert recording will insert voice recordings into the previously recorded file.

5. Does the DS-4000 have hands free capability?

The recorder can be used as a hands-free recording device. To setup the recorder for hands-free operation, connect the optional Olympus foot switch (9RS25/26) to the back of the cradle and place the recorder in the cradle.

6. How do I erase all files from a folder?

1. Select any file in the folder, then press and hold the ERASE button for 3 seconds or longer. "ALL ERASE?" flashes on the display for approx. 8 seconds.

2. Press the ERASE button once more while "ALL ERASE?" is flashing. The display changes to "ALL ERASE?"

7. Can I place index marks within a file?

Index marks can be placed in a file during recording or playback to provide a quick and easy way of keeping track of important sections in the file.

8. How do you format the card in the DS-4000?

1. Press the MENU button.

2. Press the "FF" or "REW" button until "FORMAT" in the SUB MENU flashes on the display.

3. Press the MENU button to select "FORMAT".

4. Press the "FF" or "REW" button to highlight the "START" option.

9. Nothing appears on the LCD screen. What can be wrong?

*Check to see if the batteries are loaded correctly.

*The batteries are dead.

*The recorder is in power off mode.

10. Why won't the voice recorder not start?

*The recorder is in power off mode.

*The battery may be dead.

11. The DS-4000 is unable to record?

*The card does not have enough memory.

*The card is unformatted.

*The maximum number of files has been reached.

12. I can not erase, what could be wrong?

The file is locked.

13. Why is there noise heard during playback?

*The recorder was shaken during recording.

*The recorder was placed near a cell phone or fluorescent lamp while recording or during playback.

14. I can not set index marks.

*The maximum number of index marks (16) has been reached.

*The file is locked.

15. I can not find my voice file.
